NEW PRINCE POWER RACKETS NOW AVAILABLE

Power, maneuverability and comfort come together in the continued evolution of the Silver racquet line. The EXO3 Silver features the patented Energy Bridge and Energy Channel. The Energy Bridge suspends the string bed from the frame.. The head heavy balance and 27.5" extended length help generate power off compact swings, making this EXO3 Silver an impressive choice for players who feel they are lacking power.

Prince's reliable Blue gets updated and becomes a more stable offering in this EXO3 edition. With all new EXO3 technology, the EXO3 Blue ups the comfort level, too. This version of the Blue places more weight in the head of the racquet, greatly improving stability as well as increasing power on a medium paced swing. The Prince EXO3 Blue racquet features the patented Energy Bridge and Energy Channel. Having the strings only touch the outer edge of the frame makes the racquet play like a racquet with a larger headsize. As with previous versions of the Blue, this one offers easy access to spin and enough power to please improving beginner through intermediate level players.

Matching many of the specs of the O3 Speedport Red, the EXO3 Red adds EXO3 technology, increasing on an already expansive sweet spot. This racquet is a great update to the already popular Speedport Red with its excellent maneuverability and speed through the air. From the baseline the EXO3 Red has a solid feel with a generous sweet spot that provided good depth and penetration off both sides. The open string pattern lends itself to offer good spin and a lively feel. Extremely effective at net, offering a powerful punch for putaways. On serve, this racquet cuts through the air efficiently, providing plenty of racquet head speed that enables good ball velocity on flat serves and good action on slice and kick serves.

NEW PRINCE CONTROL RACKETS NOW AVAILABLE

This lighter, whippier version of the Prince EXO3 Ignite 95 offers easier access to spin and improved mobility over the regular version. The close to even balance puts some mass behind shots without sacrificing the maneuverable feel. From the baseline you are able to generate lots of pace while still finding plenty of control thanks its spin-friendliness. This racket offers a nice bite from the stringbed, making this racquet particularly helpful when looking to attack short balls with both pace and spin. At net the EXO3 Ignite Team feels fast and agile. There's a nice comfortable feel at impact, although this one doesn't feel quite as muted as its heavier brother. That added feel helps with touch and delicate angle volleys. On serve intermediate players and above will enjoy the easy access to fast swing speeds. Some useful power, plus the spin-friendly response, makes the EXO3 Ignite Team a very useful racquet on serve. Players seeking the control of a player's racquet without the heft will find a great match here.

This lighter, more maneuverable version of the Rebel offers excellent access to spin and pace. The Rebel TEAM is a great choice for aggressive hitters looking to maximize racquet head speed as well as players seeking greater maneuverability in a control-oriented racquet. From the baseline, the racquet offers a plush and comfortable feel. The response is very comfortable with no jarring on off-center hits and the sweetspot feels generous for a player's racquet. At net, the mobile response makes this an easy racket to get around. Again, comfort is impressive yet there's ample feel for touch and placement volleys. Both spin and pace come easily on serve. There's plenty of grip from the stringbed and some nice pop to add some kick and penetration to serves.

The 100 square-inch headsize reigns supreme with the current trend of big hitting tennis, and Prince has adjusted its Graphite lineup to fit the modern game. The EXO3 Graphite 100 replaces the Graphite 110, and is the largest EXO3 Graphite. A crisp and clean response greets every shot with the EXO3 Graphite 100. There's plenty of bite from the stringbed for easy access to spin and excellent control and feel. Racket head speed is easy to generate resulting in a high level of spin and pace on groundstrokes and serves. At net the racquet blends stability with a maneuverable feel thanks to some useful heft and a headlight balance.

PRINCE LAUNCH NEW TECHNOLOGY

EXO3 Energy Channel Technology

Enhancing the dynamic effects of the Energy Bridge, is the patented Energy Channel, a sculpted groove within the frame that provides added stability, boosts ball control and increases spin by up to 25%.

EXO3 Energy Bridge Technology

The revolutionary idea behind EXO3 is the patented Energy Bridge, an exo skeletal structure that susupends the string bed from the frame, increasing virtual head size for up to an 83% larger sweet spot. In addition, frame vibration is reduced by up to 50%.

Prince says: Together with the aerodynamic ports, the EXO3 technologies create a racquet that swings fast through the air, offering excellent power, depth and spin without sacrificing comfort.

HEAD CROSSBOW TECHNOLOGY

HEAD’s innovative new CrossBow technology maximizes energy for optimum power. On ball impact, the bridge flexes independently from the racquet frame, storing energy much like a bow being loaded.
HEAD’s innovative new CrossBow technology maximizes energy for optimum power. On ball impact, the bridge flexes independently from the racquet frame, storing energy much like a bow being loaded. This new found energy is unleashed in every shot, providing incredible power. With 10 strings going through the bridge, CrossBow also offers a bigger sweetspot than any other fixed-bridge racquet, providing consistent performance and solid sound.

The CrossBow design features a 2-piece racquet: the frame and the bridge.

CrossBow acts like a spring or bow and is loaded during ball impact. It is the first and only racquet construction
that has a dynamic bridge and stores energy in both the bridge and the stringbed. The stored energy is released as the ball accelerates off the stringbed for maximum
power.

Incorporated into the racquet shaft area, the Stabilizer swings on ball impact in the opposite direction to the flex of the frame. This counteracts the frame’s oscillation and is extremely effective in eliminating racquet vibration for ultimate comfort on every shot.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT RACKET FOR YOU.

There are a lot of things to understand before choosing your racket, and in the following section we will do our best to help you understand them and how they relate to your game.
The first thing to know is that rackets fall into 3 categories.

These are Power, Mid Power and Control.

Power
This is the term used by racket manufacturers for power-oriented rackets. These rackets can be oversize, are lightweight (8-9.5 ounces), can be longer (27-29 inches), are stiffer and are balanced head-heavy to keep enough weight in the hitting zone. Designed for players with shorter, slower swings and who want more power from the racket.

Mid Power
These are rackets that offer a blend of features for club standard to pro level players. They are often mid weight(9.5-11 ounces), balanced anywhere from slightly head-light to slightly head-heavy, have midplus (98-105 square inches) heads.
These rackets would have elements of both power and control rackets, in so far as they would be heavier than power rackets and stiffer than control rackets.

Control
These rackets would be generally used by professional and high-level club players.
But not exclusively, they also suit people who swing the racket fast. These models are typically heavier in weight (11.5-13+ ounces), have smaller heads (88-98 square inch heads), are thinner, are more flexible beams and are more evenly balanced to retain manoeuverability. The result is a low-power racket, designed for players who provide their own power and prefer a racket that offers more control.

This next section covers the various features of a racket and how they affect the playability of the racket.

Head size
Power is directly related to head size - a larger head will provide more power than a smaller head, all other things being equal. A larger head also offers a larger hitting area and sweet spot, providing more forgiveness on off-centre hits.
All power rackets aren’t oversize though.
Players who have fast swing speeds should not use oversize rackets as they will lose all elements of control.

Weight and balance
These two characteristics most influence how a racket feels when you pick it up and when you swing it on the tennis court.
Lighter rackets are more manoeuvrable and suit someone who doesn’t have the fastest swing. Lighter rackets tend to have the weight more in the head of the racket. These 2 factors are what give lightweight rackets their power.
Heavier rackets would be classed as rackets with a greater element of control. Generally the person that uses this type of racket is a person who hits the ball hard (swings the racket fast). The weight of the racket slows your swing down thus giving you more control.

Frame stiffness
You could go into a lot of technical detail here about transferring of energy, and a lot of other jargon but it really is quite straightforward.
A stiffer racket is more powerful because with less flex in the frame the ball comes off it quicker. Remember though stiff rackets are less forgiving.
A more flexible racket is less powerful but because the frame flexes on impact it keeps the ball on the racket a split second longer giving you more time to direct it to where you want to go. Therefore giving you more control.

Grip size
The right grip size makes a huge difference in how a racket performs. If you're not sure of your grip size, here are two simple ways to measure:
Holding an eastern forehand grip (the palm is placed against the same bevel as the string face), you should be able to fit the index finger of your non-hitting hand in the space between your ring finger and palm.
If there isn't enough room for your index finger, the grip is too small.
If there is space between your finger and palm, the grip is too big.

A too-small grip requires more muscle strength to keep the racket from twisting in your hand. Prolonged use of a grip that's too small can contribute to tennis elbow problems.

A grip that's too large inhibits wrist snap on serves, makes changing grips more difficult and also requires more muscle strength. Prolonged use of a grip that's too big can also contribute to tennis elbow problems.

Everybody fits into 2 grip sizes, the best advice I can give is go for the one that is most comfortable, but if you are still unsure you are better off going for the smaller grip as this can be built up afterwards, whereas we can’t make a bigger grip smaller!

A SELECTION OF VOLKL IN STORE.

Above are some of the Volkl rackets now in store.
Pictured from left are the Powerbridge 6, the Powerbridge 10, and the Powerbridge 8.
The Powerbridge 6 is a lovely lightweight racket suitable for juniors or ladies but can be used by anyone. It is like all Volkl rackets nice and solid but also quiet forgiving and retails at €130.

The Powerbridge 8 is the most popular racket in the Volkl range. It weighs 295g so is at a weight that can still be used by most. It has all the elements of a control racket but still offers plenty of power.
It retails at €160.

The Powerbridge 10 is the players racket and comes in 2 weights, 295g and 320g. The heavier of the 2 is for players who really swing fast and want nothing but control in their game.
The 295g is more user friendly and allows the player a more manageable frame with a certain element of power without losing control.
It retails at €180.

VOLKL TECHNOLOGY

POWER BRIDGE

By V̦lkl Tennis РThe power that comes from the core

One of the most important factors that determine the power of a tennis racket is the stability and stiffness of the frame. Because the more stable the frame is, the more kinetic energy can be returned to the ball. In recent years our engineers have achieved totally new dimensions of power by integrating DNX into the frame. The high-strength DNX material is based on a CARBON NANOTUBE technology developed by Völkl Tennis and the Fraunhofer Technology Development Group (Fraunhofer TEG) and, with the same weight, is around 25 times stronger than conventional carbon fibre materials. Thanks to our many years of experience in using DNX we have now successfully achieved the next step forward in developing POWERBRIDGE. When constructing a racket head, the design of the yoke – in other words the lowest section (the 6-o’clock position) – poses a difficult challenge. The German research department of Völkl Tennis has now focused intensively on this critical yoke area of the racket. The result of this development work is POWERBRIDGE – an innovative construction which considerably increases the stability of this critical area. This makes the entire racket more powerful and dynamic. This effect is achieved on the one hand by integrating the high-strength DNX material and on the other hand by increasing the specific material density in the yoke.

How does Powerbridge work?
The secret of POWERBRIDGE lies in two components. The first is the tried-and-tested DNX technology, which is now being used in the bridge of the racket head for the first time. Second, the designers at Völkl Tennis have succeeded in reducing the cross-section of the bridge without losing stability. The quantity of expansion resin which functions as the binding agent to bond the yoke to the rest of the frame to form a unit remains completely unchanged here. The only difference is the higher compaction of the matrix. In conjunction with the power features of DNX this compression produces an enormously solid composite material which optimises the core of the racket, thereby investing the entire racket with more power.

Power for the core of the racket

To date, the “DNX Tuning” of the rackets from Völkl Tennis has concentrated on the shaft area and the two lateral brackets on the racket head (3- and 9-o’clock positions). With POWERBRIDGE we have now also strengthened the 6-o’clock position. Integrating the yoke into the seamless main frame while still guaranteeing consistent stability is a particularly complicated task. POWERBRIDGE offers an ideal solution to this problem for the first time – not only ensuring that the critical core of the racket is more stable, but also providing extra power. As a result, POWERBRIDGE permits an even more dynamic style of play.

WILSON FX NEW TECHNOLOGY NOW IN STORE.

Wilson has just introduced its 2009 [K] Factor line of rackets incorporating cool, new generation technology, called FX. FX means [K] Factors multiplied. The new line utilizes a Quad Shaft construction in the throat area of the racquet, four shafts vs. the traditional two, this means more stability so better control over your shots. Four key technologies are also incorporated, [K]arophite Black, [K]onnector, [K]ontour Yoke and [K]ompact center which contribute to improved feel, strength and stability.
The racquets all offer a bigger than traditional sweet spot.

Seven new models get the new technology: [K] One.FX, [K] Three.FX, [K] Four.FX, [K] Zen Team.FX, [K]obra Team.FX (pictured), [K] Pro Team. FX and K Tour Team.FX. The [K}obra Tour and [K]obra Team FX are player's frames.
The others fall into the game improvement category with varying head sizes and weights. The throat of these racquets is very unique looking with a vertical hole in each side allowing for the four shafts

RESTRINGING IMPROVES PERFORMANCE.

How many of you have paid good money for your racket and never had it restrung?
The general recommendation is if you haven't broken a string for 6months you should get your racket restrung.
This improves the performance of the frame.
There are many different types of strings available and we would be happy to discuss them with you.
Due this week we have a new brand range of strings called Quartz strings. Not only do they offer a huge range of colours but also new types of string called "Octagonal Twist" and "Pentagonal Twist", these as there names suggest have a 6 and 8 groove feature on each string offering more spin to the user.
Why not give them a try!
